Description

The above effect of a turret firing, including the model of the turret was done by me.

I started off in blender by modeling the the turret, once the turret was modeled I UVed it and brought it into marmoset toolbag where I textured it using the new texturing tools released in version 4.

Once the model was finished I brought it in to Godot and set it up in a simple scene. I also created a animation of the turret's barrel retracting and pushing out again for the firing effect.

To start off the effect I wanted to do a lens flare so the player would know for sure that the gun had fired even if they were far away. The lens flare was created in blender by using a simple disc / wok shape for the base and which has uvs aligned in such a way that tiling them creates the base's star pattern. For the front pointy bit its 2 planes aligned to form a x shape.

For the smoke bursts I relied on Godot's particle system and Embergen to generate smoke flipbook textures. The sparks were also created using Godot's Particle System

Both the explosion at the end and the bullet fired cast light thanks to the instanced light on the scene.
